Avatar video game releases first story trailer and people say it looks just like the movie

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is set for release through Ubisoft on December 7 2023

The first story trailer for the forthcoming Avatar video game has been released and fans are super-excited, with many even saying that it looks exactly like the film.

Here's a look at the trailer:

It’s called Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and it was revealed during an event called Ubisoft Forward – showcasing some of the stuff that is in development from the popular gaming production company.

In the trailer, the Na’Vi – the alien race that feature heavily in both of James Cameron’s films – can be seen using human weapons, as well as their own, and viewers got a glimpse of the open world that the game will be staged in.

The idea behind it will be for the player to fight off the incoming human invasion by the looks of things.

The trailer also features a message from Cameron himself, who tells potential players that the game ‘co-exists’ in the same world as the film, with the story running alongside the two blockbusters.

It looks pretty great, you have to admit.

On that front, The Way of Water producer Jon Landau recently confirmed that, though the films will be ‘canon’ so to speak, there’s no story crossover.

He said: “We don’t want the stories to be told together,

“This is where we differentiate [from other franchises that have both movies and video games].

“We want the stories to be unique in each of these spaces.”

Pandora, the fictional moon that the Na’Vi inhabit, will be the main stage for the film, though the game action will take place in a part not seen within the movies.

There will also be opportunities for players to craft improved weapons and hone their fighting skills by exploring that world.

The game will have first-person and multiplayer modes.

Ubisoft has since announced that the release date for the game will be 7 December 2023, following delays that pushed it back from first March, then July 2022.

It will be available on the recently announced Xbox Series X/X, as well as the PS5, PC, and Amazon Luna.

To say fans have been excited since the release of the trailer is a bit of a understatement, with one writing: “Is it weird that I am more interested in the game then [sic] the movies?

“I'm not a fan of the movies but this game looks FANTASTIC!”

It remains to be seen whether it will be as big a success as the movies.

Another said: “What? I thought it was the movie.”

While someone else said: "Thought Avatar was about to drop another movie."

A final said: "wake up new personality dropped."

The Avatar series has been a huge success, with both first and second films breaking all sorts of records.

It remains to be seen whether the video game will be as successful, but if you watch the trailer, you’d have to admit that it looks very pretty.
