Benedict Cumberbatch Hits Back After Tom Holland Made Fun Of Him In Interview
Benedict Cumberbatch has responded to Tom Holland's 'luvvie' impression of him.
Holland and Cumberbatch have worked together across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first starring together in Avengers: Infinity War, returning in Endgame and breaking the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Particularly with them being paired together in interviews, with Cumberbatch as a spoiler-keeper of sorts, they've spent a lot of time in each other's company. However, Holland's impression of his co-star wasn't particularly flattering, it seems.
During an earlier appearance on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2 around the release of Uncharted, Holland was asked to do his best Cumberbatch after the Sherlock actor's several impressions over the past few years.
He said: "Oh Tom, darling, would you like to run the lines before we start shooting, darling?" Ball said it was 'fabulous' and 'spot on'.
Ahead of the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Cumberbatch joined Ball for a chat, and she asked him what he thought of Holland's impression.
He said: "I reckon there’s a definite winner, and it’s not Tom... I don’t go all luvvie! I’ve never called him ‘darling’ or ‘love’.
"I’ve sent my love to him, but I don't think I’ve ever called him ‘darling’ or ‘love’. Poor guy – when you put him on the spot like that!"
The stars clearly get on well – Cumberbatch said Holland was 'very good-natured' in the interview – but if there's a dog in the mix, it's gotten a bit ruff on-set.
While starring together in comic book adventures, they also worked on The Current War, chronicling the 19th-century electricity battle between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse.
Holland, who played Samuel Insull alongside Cumberbatch's Edison, spoke about his experience shooting it during an appearance on The One Show. Unfortunately, the Spider-Man star's dog became a bit of a problem.
He said: "We were shooting this sequence that was supposed to be in a field, but we shot it in a sound stage, and Benedict was supposed to be giving this massive speech.
"Tessa is so well-behaved, I can have her on set, she doesn't bark, she doesn't make a noise. But, she must have had some hay intolerance, and she was just sneezing and sneezing.
"You could see Benedict trying to stay in character and then, eventually, he was like, 'Can somebody take that dog out, please?'"
Cumberbatch will return as Doctor Strange in May. It's unclear whether Holland will make an appearance given the film directly follows No Way Home, but many other cameos are expected.
