Harrison Ford finally addresses rumor that Indiana Jones' hat was stapled to his head while filming

Following the release of the fifth instalment, Harrison Ford has addressed a long-running Indiana Jones rumor

After a long-anticipated wait, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny hit cinemas across the world last month, much to fans' delight.

While its Rotten Tomatoes score of 68 percent will not rank it among the franchise's best, much of Indy's fans enjoyed Harrison Ford's return to the iconic character.

In fact, the 81-year-old confirmed prior to the release of the latest Indiana Jones adventure that it would be the last time we see him take on the role of the beloved adventurer.

As a result, Ford is perhaps allowed to give away a few more secrets surrounding filming as compared to if a follow-up was on the way.

In an interview with GQ, Ford has been spilling the beans when it comes to Indiana Jones' wardrobe, as behind-the-scenes footage from the first Indiana Jones movie showed a young Ford stapling Indy’s iconic fedora to his forehead.

"That should do it," Ford says in the clip from the filming of 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Ford was questioned on the clip by the interviewer, to which he replied: "You do what you need to do."

The famed actor then pushed aside the front of his hair and added: "I still have the [scar]."

Indiana Jones is of course an action film, with Ford involved in a number of highly-active scenes over the five films.

While the action sequences may be a little tamed down now the actor is in his 80s, you can understand why his famed hat was stapled onto his head to ensure it didn't fall off.

Ford went on to discuss the rest of Indy's costume, including a leather jacket and bullwhip.

"It was presented to me as an aspect of character in the first film," the actor recalled.

The hat is certainly the most iconic part of Indy's outfit.

"My questions about it were many. Why am I wearing a leather jacket in the jungle? Isn’t it hot here? Why am I carrying a whip? What am I going to do with a f***ing whip? I’m going to whip people?"

The final film has been an emotional journey for Ford, as he has choked up on many occasion while promoting the fifth instalment.

When a journalist on BBC Radio 1 thanked Ford on behalf of all Indiana Jones fans, the actor emotionally replied: "And I must say to you, thank you, sincerely. It means the world to me."

Ford went on to praise the franchise, saying: "The films are peopled with some of the most amazing actors and characters. And the stories are so compelling and they mix adventure and humor and heart."
