The Walking Dead has finally finished after 12 years and 177 episodes

The popular post-apocalyptic horror television aired its final episode ‘Rest in Peace’.

We are finally saying adios to The Walking Dead after more than a decade of being on the air.

The popular post-apocalyptic horror television aired its finale episode ‘Rest in Peace’ last night (Sunday, November 20).

This was the 177th episode of the series.

The finale centered around the last remaining survivors, led by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), as they struggle to overcome The Commonwealth.

However, the production tormented their fans with the 11th season, as it was divided into three parts with eight episodes each.

As the season continued to keep us on the edge of our seats, fans tweeted about the highly awaited episode, while many were seemingly emotional about the climactic build-up.

One person wrote: “Crying sobbing shaking throwing up #TWD.”

Another said: “I apologize in advance for how I will behave if Rick Grimes shows up in the series finale of The Walking Dead.”

A third person shared: “Still my favorite show of all time. I don't care what y'all say. Tonight is so bittersweet."

While another said: "THAT FINALE WAS EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED! THANK YOU THE WALKING DEAD, FOR EVERYTHING!"

However, despite fans saying goodbye to the AMC show after 12 years, the series has spawned multiple spin-offs, including Fear of the Walking Dead, Tales of the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: Dead City, just in case you still want to get your post-apocalyptic fix in.

And, just to add to the titles, Rick and Michonne also have their own show in the works.

According to Radio Times, the series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year and will debut in January 2023.

Showrunner Scott Gimple said during the Walking Dead Universe Preview special in August: "I've been working on it very, very deeply with Danai and with Andy, and we continue to work on it pretty much every day together with some Walking Dead vets and some great new voices.”

He continued: "It's an epic love story, but it's an epic and insane love story."
