Johnny Depp cowered in fear during an argument with Amber Heard, an eyewitness has claimed.

Depp, 58, is suing ex-wife Amber Heard, 36, for $50 million (£38.2 million) in a defamation lawsuit over domestic abuse claims she made in a 2018 article in The Washington Post.

The trial at Virginia's Fairfax County Circuit Court is in its sixth and final week, and Morgan Night has been giving evidence about an argument between the former couple at a luxury trailer park he used to own in Hicksville, California.

Heard has previously stated that Depp trashed a trailer in a jealous rage during their 2013 stay, but Night painted a very different picture.

"I was speaking with Mr Depp, just one-on-one talking about Hicksville, and Ms Heard came over and she said that I want to talk to you and seemed really upset about something," Night told the jury.

"They went off on their own and she started yelling at him."

Night said Depp was 'cowering and seemed almost afraid' during the row.

"It was really, like, odd to see because he was older than her obviously, so but I just went back into the house," he said.

"At the beginning of the night he was a lot more outgoing and extraverted. As the course of the night went on, he was less so."

He added that there was minimal damage to their trailer and only a light fixture was broken.

Amber Heard Says She Still Loves Johnny Depp

published at13 days ago

Depp is suing Heard for $50m (£38.2m), and she has issued a counterclaim for $100m (£76.4m).

The pair began dating after meeting on the set of 2011 film The Rum Diary and got married in 2015. Heard obtained a restraining order against Depp the following year and they finalised their divorce in 2017.

Asked about her decision to file for divorce from Depp in May 2016, Heard said in court last week: "I knew if I didn't I'd likely not literally survive.

"I was so scared that it was going to end really badly for me and I really didn't want to leave him, I loved him so much.

"I would have done anything but I couldn't do that one thing, I couldn't stay."

In 2020, Depp lost a libel case brought against The Sun over an article in which he was labelled a 'wife beater'.

He has denied all allegations of abuse.

The trial continues.
