Mason Greenwood: Nike Suspends Manchester United Footballer Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations

Nike has confirmed it is suspending its relationship with Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood.

Nike has confirmed it is suspending its relationship with Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood in the wake of allegations of domestic violence against him.

In a statement, the sportswear company said, 'We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.'

A man remains in police custody after officers investigating the case were granted more time to question the 20-year-old, following his arrest on Sunday, January 30.

In a statement issued on Monday, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a man was being held on suspicion of rape and assault, and asked members of the public to avoid 'commentary or sharing of images' that could compromise the victim's right to anonymity or risk prejudicing any future proceedings.

'Inquiries are ongoing and the victim is being offered specialist support,' the statement said, per the BBC.

Police began investigating allegations of domestic violence against Greenwood after they were made aware of 'online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence', they said in a statement issued following the arrest.

After confirming they were looking into the allegations, Manchester United confirmed shortly before the news that Greater Manchester Police had made an arrest that Greenwood would 'not return to training or play matches until further notice', adding 'Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind'.

Greenwood made his debut for Manchester United in February 2019 and last year signed a four-year deal with the club, where he rose through the ranks of the youth academy before breaking into the first team.
